Charity Nigaoe Project
for Earthquake Relief

Can You Help the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami victims?

Japanese graphic designers are running a project to raise money for Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tunami victims. When you donate $25 or more to American Red Cross, they will draw a portrait and send it to you.
*The word "portrait" in this site refers to nigaoe (catoon like portrait/charicature).

The designers involved in this project are not related to American Red Cross. They thought what they can do to help victimes. They can use their skills and time (and the material cost), so they started the project.

This project is not run by a non-profit organization. They cannot collect contribution directly from you. They do not want to be involved in any money transaction. They would rather do what they are good at than start a non-profit organiazaion.

What they are asking for is a donation to American Red Cross. The donation you make is between you and American Red Cross. 100% of your donation goes to American Red Cross.

Here is how it works:

1.  Go to American Red Cross Donation Site.  Make sure to select “Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami.” (Click the radio button/round circle on the left side of the photo.) Then, scroll to the bottom and click "CONTINUE."

2.  Follow the instruction and donate $25 or more.
*If you want more than one person in one drawing, please donate $25 or more per person. Please see each artist's "Other Information" for the maximum number. Please note: More people in one drawing, the smaller each person's size gets.

3.  When you receive your donation receipt from the Red Cross, send it to Reiko Fujimoto along with your photo(s). The photos can be of you, your family, your friend, or your pet.
*If possible, please send 2 to 3 photos that show the face clearly.
* Basically, drawings are face only. To request a whole body drawing, please indicate so.

We will sent the portrait within 1 month via E-mail. The portrait is about 1MB. If your e-mail cannot receive a 1MB attachment, please let us know. We will reduce the size.

Following is the list of volunteer artists. To request a specifc artist for your portrait, please specify the name of artist. Otherwise, we will choose the artist.

Blog

*The artists' websites are written in Japanese. You can see their brief profiles and more samples in the blog.

*Please do not get mad if the portrait you recieve does not look like the photo. We are asking for your help, not asking you to buy their works. The portrait is a "thank you" for your good will.

The goal of the project is 100 portraits. You can see the progress report on homepage and here.

Could you make a donation to help the victims?  If you cannot, I understand.  The economy is not doing well in U.S. Many people are having hard time.  If you cannot donate money, at leaset could you please let your friends and family know about this project?  Please let other people know about the Charity Nigaoe Project through your facebook, twitter, blog, or any other media you can think of.

If you have questions, please contact Reiko Fujimoto.

Thank you for your corporation.
